# Audiences and targeting

There are two ways to say who sees an ad:

- **Targeting**: describe people. Countries, cities, age, gender, languages, interests. On LinkedIn also job titles, industries and company size. On Reddit, communities and keywords.
- **Audiences**: saved groups of people. You fill some yourself. The network fills others for you.

## Audience types

| Company list | Whole companies, by name or website | LinkedIn |

When you create an audience, Pozy only offers the types your ad account's network supports.

## Do it in the dashboard

1. Open **Ads**, then **Audiences**, and pick the ad account.
2. Choose **New audience**.
3. Pick the type and give it a name.
4. For a customer list, paste emails or choose **Upload CSV**.
5. Create it. It shows under **Custom audiences** with its size and status.
6. Use it in **Create ad**, at the **Audience** step, under **Custom audiences (optional)**.

To plan targeting, use the **Targeting browser** on the same page. Search interests, places and job titles, add them, then choose **Estimate reach** to see how many people the mix reaches.

## Good to know

- Upload plain emails. Pozy scrambles (hashes) them before they leave Pozy, so the network never gets the raw contact details.
- Only upload people who agreed to hear from you. Each network's customer list rules apply to you.
- Audiences take time to build. Google can take up to 24 hours and TikTok up to 48. A size of zero right after an upload is normal.
- Google needs enough matched people before it serves a list. Upload at least 5,000.
- On LinkedIn, each upload replaces the whole list.
- An X audience needs at least 100 matched people before you can target it.
- ChatGPT ads have no custom audiences. They target by country only.
- A website audience fills only once the pixel is on your site. See [Conversions and pixels](https://pozy.ai/help/ads/conversions-and-pixels).
- On Meta, do not target a city and the country it is in at the same time. Meta rejects the ad.
