# Buy a phone number

## Do it in the dashboard

1. Open **Phone** and choose **Buy a number**.
2. **Choose a country.** Prices and stock are live. **Instant** countries are ready the moment you buy. Countries marked **ID check** need a one-time identity check first.
3. Pick the **Number type** if the country offers more than one.
4. **Pick a number.** Search by **Area** or **Contains digits**, and tick **SMS-capable only** if you want to text. Or skip picking, and Pozy gives you the next free number.
5. Choose the **Profile the number goes on**. Leave **Use for WhatsApp** on if you plan to use it on WhatsApp.
6. Confirm the purchase. The button shows the monthly price.

## Countries that need an ID check

Many countries control who can hold a phone number. There, you fill in a short form before the number is ordered:

- Your name, or your business name, and an address. Some countries want the address inside the number's area.
- An ID document or business papers, when the country asks for them. For an ID card, put the front and back in one file.

Review usually takes 1 to 3 business days. You are not billed until the number is active.

**If something is missing:** the number shows **Regulatory review** with the reviewer's note. Fix only what they flagged, or reply with **Message the reviewer**. You do not start over, and you are not billed twice.

**If a person must prove who they are:** some countries (Australian mobiles, for example) need a short online ID check after the order. Pozy shows a link. Send it to the person whose ID is on file.

**If the area is sold out:** choose **Place a pre-order instead**. The carrier finds a number for you, usually in 2 to 4 weeks. Nothing is billed until it is active.

## Good to know

- **US numbers cannot send SMS today.** US carrier registration is not available yet. A US number still takes calls, works on WhatsApp and can receive texts.
- The price is flat per month, set by country and type. It is charged when the number goes live and on the 1st of each month, and it stays at the price you bought it for.
- You need a payment method on your workspace to buy a number.
- A profile holds one number. If the profile already has one, Pozy puts the new number on another profile.
- Toll-free numbers cannot connect to WhatsApp.
- Numbers do not count as channels on your [plan](https://pozy.ai/help/workspace/plans-and-usage).
- Numbers do not support emergency calls.
- Releasing a number is permanent. You cannot get it back.
