# Bring your own number

Moving a number is called porting. It is free.

## What you need

- A signed **Letter of Authorization** from the person or business that owns the account.
- A recent invoice from your current phone company.
- Your account details there: the account holder, the person who signs, the account number and the service address.
- For US and Canadian mobiles, a transfer PIN. Your current phone company gives it to you.

## Where it works

| Country | What can move |
|---|---|
| United States, Canada | Most numbers. Some qualify for a fast port |
| United Kingdom | Mobiles move with a PAC code |
| Spain, Germany, France, Netherlands | Landline and national numbers. Not mobiles yet |
| Australia, Brazil | Landline and national numbers |

## Do it in the dashboard

1. Open **Phone** and choose **Port a number**.
2. Under **Numbers to move**, type each number on its own line, with the country code. Choose **Check portability**. This only checks. It creates nothing.
3. Choose **Start a port-in** with the numbers that can move.
4. Fill in **Account at the current carrier** and the **Service address**.
5. Add the **Letter of Authorization (signed)** and the **Recent invoice from the current carrier**. Some countries ask for a few more details. They show up once you pick the country.
6. Under **Timing**, pick a **Preferred port date** if you have one. For **Port type**, choose **Full** to move every number on the account, or **Partial** to move only these and keep the account open.
7. Choose **Submit port-in**.

## Follow the order

Your request shows under **Port-in orders**:

- **With the carrier**: your current phone company is working on it.
- **Date confirmed**: the number moves on that date.
- **Ported**: done. The number is in your list.
- **Needs attention**: the carrier found a problem. Fix the details and it goes back in line.

US and Canadian ports usually take 1 to 2 weeks. Other countries can take several weeks.

## Good to know

- **Keep your old line active until the order says Ported.** Cancelling it early can lose the number.
- The number bills its normal monthly price once it is live on Pozy.
- After the port, [route its calls](https://pozy.ai/help/messaging/calls-and-voice-agents) and [connect it to WhatsApp](https://pozy.ai/help/messaging/whatsapp-setup).
- SMS can be turned on for numbers outside the US. US numbers cannot send SMS today.
- Some number types cannot be moved online. Pozy then shows a note. [Contact support](https://pozy.ai/help/workspace/support) and the team moves it for you.
- You can cancel any order before it is ported. Drafts left alone for 14 days are cancelled.
