Send SMS outside the US
Text customers from a Pozy number or from your brand name. SMS works in many countries today. US numbers cannot send texts yet.
#Where it works
| Number | Can it send texts? |
|---|---|
| A Pozy number outside the US | Yes, as soon as SMS is on. No registration and no monthly SMS fee |
| A US number | Not yet. It can receive texts, but US carrier registration (10DLC and toll-free) is not available |
| A sender ID (your brand name) | Yes, one-way, to most countries outside the US, Canada and Puerto Rico |
#Do it in the dashboard
- Buy a number that can text. Use the SMS filter and SMS-capable only when you search.
- Open Phone, then Numbers, open the number and choose Enable SMS.
- Send a test: open SMS registration, then the Send and verify tab, and use Send a test text. You can also pick Send later to schedule it.
- Replies land in your Inbox. Answer them there, or start a chat with New message.
To text many people at once, use a broadcast.
#Send from your brand name
A sender ID shows a name like NORTHWIND instead of a number, the way banks send alerts.
- Open SMS registration, then the Sender IDs tab.
- Type a New sender ID and choose Create. Use 3 to 11 letters, digits or spaces, with at least one letter.
- Pick it in the From field when you send.
People cannot reply to a sender ID. It sends text only. It must be your own brand: names that copy banks, delivery companies or government bodies are refused. Some countries swap the name for a number, and some (India, the UAE) need it registered first. Ask support for those.
#Or ask your AI
Text +44 7700 900123 from my UK number: "Your table for 4 is booked for 8pm tonight. Reply STOP to opt out." Show me the message before sending.
#What it costs
SMS starts at $0.008 a segment, by destination. A segment is 160 plain characters. One emoji or a letter outside the basic alphabet (like ś or ł) shrinks it to 70 characters for the whole message. A text can be up to 10 segments.
#Good to know
- STOP means stop. When someone replies STOP, sends to them are refused. Only their START lets you text them again. See the list in the Opt-outs tab.
- Put "Reply STOP to opt out" in your first message to a new contact.
- Look up a number shows the carrier and line type before you text. Landlines cannot receive SMS.
- Sender IDs have a daily limit that resets at midnight UTC. Ask support to raise it.
- Sending one-time codes through Pozy is not available yet.
- Only text people who agreed to hear from you.
